organist Florian Wilkes

Florian Wilkes is resident organist at St Hedwig's Cathedral, Berlin, and also gives concerts at both the national and international level (recitals).

His concerts are characterised by sophisticated programmes which marry well with the particular instrument (repertoire). From an inner tranquillity Florian Wilkes conjures up sounds which touch the listener at the core. The strengths of interpretation which are repeatedly acknowledged in reviews of his concerts are:

He studied at the Cathedral of Bamberg and at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, now called UdK. His first post, at the age of seventeen, was at the Paulus Church in Schwerte/Ruhr. Several times he has won prizes in the “Youth makes music” competition. He was a scholarship holder of the Gotthard Schierse-foundation and has received support from the Land Berlin, the Deutsche Musikrat, various Goethe-Institutes, etc. (vita).

Florian Wilkes’ CDs enjoy great popularity (discography).

His compositions for the organ are well received by audiences (composer)
